Kristofferson has spent three decades performing concerts all over the world, in most recent years in a solo acoustic setting, which puts the focus on the songs. \u201cThere\u2019s honesty in the sparseness. It feels like direct communication to the listener,\u201d he says. \u201cI still have more fun when I\u2019m with the band, but being alone is freer, somehow. It\u2019s like being an old blues guy, just completely stripped away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kristofferson achieved remarkable success as a country songwriter at the start of the 1970s. His songs &#8220;Me and Bobby McGee,&#8221; &#8220;Help Me Make It Through the Night,&#8221; &#8220;Sunday Morning Coming Down,&#8221; and &#8220;For the Good Times,&#8221; all chart-topping hits, helped redefine country songwriting. By 1987, it was estimated that more than 450 artists had recorded Kristofferson\u2019s compositions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His renown as a songwriter triggered Kristofferson\u2019s successful career as a performer and that, in turn, brought him to the attention of Hollywood, leading to his flourishing career as a film actor. Kristofferson has acted in more than 70 films. In 1977 He won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in \u201cA Star Is Born.\u201d He\u2019s appeared in cult favourites including the \u201cBlade\u201d trilogy, \u201cLone Star,\u201d \u201cA Soldier\u2019s Daughter Never Cries,\u201d \u201cAlice Doesn\u2019t Live Here Anymore,\u201d \u201cBlume In Love,\u201d \u201cCisco Pike,\u201d and \u201cPat Garrett and Billy the Kid.\u201d Recent films include \u201cFast Food Nation,\u201d \u201cDreamer:\u00a0 Inspired by a True Story,\u201d \u201cThe Jacket,\u201d \u201cSilver City,\u201d \u201cHe\u2019s Just Not That in to you,\u201d and \u201cDolphin Tale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many would have hung their hat by now. Instead, Kristofferson barely has paused for breath. He\u2019s released several recent high watermarks including the increasingly intimate\u00a0<em>A Moment of Forever\u00a0<\/em>(1995),\u00a0<em>The Austin Sessions\u00a0<\/em>(1999) and\u00a0<em>This Old Road\u00a0<\/em>(2006), and he produced some of his finest work with the deeply personal\u00a0<em>Closer to the Bone\u00a0<\/em>(2009) and\u00a0<em>Feeling Mortal\u00a0<\/em>(2013). Kristofferson has reached living legend status, but that hasn\u2019t changed or hindered his creativity. His current CD,\u00a0<em>The Cedar Creek Sessions,\u00a0<\/em>was recorded live at Austin\u2019s Cedar Creek Recording Studio in June 2014. Released in time for Kristofferson\u2019s 80th birthday in 2016, the double-CD set is a snapshot of the legendary songwriter in the twilight of his life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to many other awards, Kristofferson is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, winner of the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriter Hall of Fame, and was honored with the American Veteran\u2019s Association\u2019s \u201cVeteran of the Year Award\u201d in 2002. For Kristofferson\u2019s 70th birthday in 2006, his friends and admirers gifted him with a tribute CD,\u00a0<em>The Pilgrim: A Celebration of Kris Kristofferson<\/em>. Stars including Willie Nelson, Russell Crowe, Emmylou Harris, Gretchen Wilson, Rosanne Cash, and Brian McKnight recorded 17 of Kristofferson\u2019s compositions for the tribute. In 2007, Kristofferson was honored with the Johnny Cash Visionary Award from Country Music Television and in 2009 BMI lauded Kristofferson with the Icon Award. He received the Frances Preston Music Industry Award from the T.J. Martell Foundation in March, 2012.
