In every artist\u2019s career, certain albums stand out as a significant piece of their soul. For\u00a0Kenny Chesney,\u00a0Songs for the Saints\u00a0is that album. Co-produced with Buddy Cannon, the 12 tracks mark a deep dive into \u201cthe places that save you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo much has happened since I went off the road in 2016,\u201d Chesney explains. \u201cAnd\u00a0<\/span>all\u00a0<\/span>of it, in one way or another, has ended up on this record. It\u2019s special to me because of what it says \u2013 to me, and for me \u2013 about life, the world around us, how fragile it all can be and about somehow still finding the best parts of you, and moving towards them.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Due July 27,\u00a0<\/span>Songs for the Saints\u00a0<\/span>marks the 8-time Entertainer of the Year\u2019s first album on Blue Chair\/Warner Bros. Nashville. In many ways, this new home for his work mirrors the things that inspired this album.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLeaving a place where I\u2019d spent my whole career was both scary and exciting,\u201d Chesney concedes. \u201cThere\u2019s that rush of not knowing anything about how this company works, and digging in. But there\u2019s also a special thrill of being around people who truly understand what you\u2019re doing and who are excited to be part of this music. It\u2019s inspiring in all new ways when you have people match your own passion for the music.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Recorded over the last several months, Chesney had a notion about what his record was going to be long before it galvanized into\u00a0<\/span>Songs for the Saints<\/span>. \u201cI was at a turning point in my life on so many levels, and then Hurricane Irma hit the Virgin Islands.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut this album isn\u2019t\u00a0<\/span>about\u00a0<\/span>St. John, so much as it\u2019s about what happened\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>St. John and all those islands you didn\u2019t see on the news,\u201d continues the man called \u201cThe People\u2019s Superstar\u201d by\u00a0<\/span>The Los Angeles Times.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cTo just see the devastation and what that does to people is one thing, but then there\u2019s this courage and resilience people find\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a literal record,\u201d he cautions, \u201cbut it is an album about the refuges we all have, how temporary life is and the way we navigate to better places, dig in and face the destruction. And sometimes, we learn to own our wild hearts in the process.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond the euphoric \u201cGet Along,\u201d the banjo and people-positive message tempo track hovering outside the Top 10, Chesney wrote or co-write five tracks. As with any release from the East Tennessee songwriter\/superstar, there are songwriters getting their first cuts, surprise collaborations, an obscure jewel and the emotional fabric that makes the No Shoes Nation a place rich with heart, tenacity and the will to embrace life on its terms.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u00a0<\/span>know\u00a0<\/span>what this album\u2019s supposed to be, and I know how much it means to me,\u201d he says. \u201cI wanted to get it just right, before we set a release date\u2026 and I think we\u2019ve got it. I\u2019m just glad we\u2019ll have it out in time for me to play some of these songs this summer before the\u00a0<\/span>Trip Around the Sun Tour<\/span>\u00a0is over.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
