That\u2019s how I feel right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nHis pre-show anxiety wasn\u2019t about the crowd (84,000 people), the setlist (23 songs), or even the staging (in the round). His biggest concern was a wintry mix of snow, rain, 13 mph winds and temperatures hovering right around 35 degrees. And after a one-hour weather delay, he gave the crowd more than two hours of music to thoroughly take their minds off the cold.<\/p>\n<p>There were new songs, like \u201cLive Again,\u201d which included a short Beatles medley in the middle. There were covers from his musical hero Bob Seger, \u201cNight Moves\u201d and \u201cTurn the Page.\u201d There were expected cover tunes, like the show-closer \u201cAmerican Pie\u201d from Don McLean, and unexpected ones, like his guy version of\u00a0Ashley McBryde\u2019s \u201cGirl Goin\u2019 Nowhere.\u201d And there were appearances from the Notre Dame football cheerleaders and the school\u2019s leprechaun mascot.<\/p>\n<p>But the majority of the concert was devoted to the hits and more hits. Brooks started the show with honky-tonk tunes and heartfelt ballads, like \u201cThat Summer,\u201d \u201cTwo of a Kind, Workin\u2019 on a Full House,\u201d \u201cThe River,\u201d \u201cPapa Loved Mama,\u201d and \u201cTwo Pina Coladas.\u201d Then he gave his band a break. \u201cYou guys can take a few seconds to maybe go get warm,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m gonna be with these people.\u201d He performed \u201cUnanswered Prayers\u201d \u2014 a fitting song because of the football setting \u2014 by himself.<\/p>\n<p>The band came back for a steady stream of more crowd pleasers: \u201cStanding Outside the Fire,\u201d \u201cRodeo,\u201d \u201cAin\u2019t Goin\u2019 Down (\u2019Til the Sun Comes Up),\u201d \u201cThe Thunder Rolls,\u201d \u201cCallin\u2019 Baton Rouge\u201d (Oak Ridge Boys cover),\u201d \u201cFriends in Low Places,\u201d and \u201cThe Dance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But by about 10:00 p.m., Brooks let his band leave the stage again while he stayed behind to take some requests and give the hardy crowd the acoustic encore they deserved, with his \u201cShe\u2019s Every Woman,\u201d \u201cThe Red Strokes,\u201d \u201cIreland\u201d and \u201cMore Than a Memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The concert was filmed for a TV special\u00a0<em>Garth: Live at Notre Dame!<\/em>, which will air Dec. 2 on CBS.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks\u2019\u00a0North American Stadium Tour\u00a0will start in Glendale, Arizona in 2019, and he will continue to play about a dozen stadiums a year for three years, before heading back to Notre Dame to end the tour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cHave you ever been on a date, and the whole time you\u2019re worried that your date isn\u2019t having a good time,\u201d\u00a0Garth Brooks\u00a0asked CMT&#8217;s Alison Bonaguro before he took the stage on the fifty-yard line in Notre Dame Stadium. \u201cEven though they might be having the best time on the planet?
