<\/p>\nJanson is celebrating the release of his first-ever Christmas single \u201cIt Is Christmas,\u201d a timeless ode to the most wonderful (and his favorite) time of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s all I\u2019ve ever loved. I don\u2019t love kitsch in anything, in any format of life but I love real and just things that make you feel something,\u201d Janson told CMT.com in a recent interview.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very much a traditionalist person but I\u2019m also a path cutter type person. And so, for years people have been saying, \u2019You should record a Christmas song, you should record a Christmas song.\u2019 I don\u2019t want to record a Christmas song. I don\u2019t like doing other peoples\u2019 music.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, he did what Janson does best\u2013he wrote his own.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne day I had a random idea to write a Christmas song in like July, and that\u2019s what we did. I wrote this song probably three years ago with my co-writers and we just never thought it would see the light of day. I didn\u2019t have a record deal at the time and then when I got one it was just something that I just sort of brought up in passing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The track was actually recorded at the end of the session for his current album\u00a0Everybody<\/em>, but the idea of a Christmas song still wasn\u2019t on everyone\u2019s radar just yet. Finally, Janson said, it just made sense and the timing was perfect, as was the arrangement.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen we wrote it I wanted a spoken word kind of thing, to me that\u2019s what Christmas is,\u201d he said. \u201cUnless you can do it as good as Mariah Carey, I just don\u2019t think you have any business doing it,\u201d he jokingly said.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I\u2019m going to do it, I want to \u2026 I just don\u2019t want to follow the crowd. I have to write my own,\u201d he asserted. \u201cSo we just wrote our own. It\u2019s a true story by the way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
