In times of trouble these days, singers and songwriters always seem to have each other’s backs. Across genres and generations, the worst of times tend to bring out the best in artists.
And that’s what has happened this week, as word spread of pop star Demi Lovato’s apparent drug overdose on Tuesday (July 24). Almost immediately, Brad Paisleyexpressed his support for Lovato, with whom he has collaborated with over the years, most recently on his 2016 song “Without a Fight.” Continue reading
It’s been a long wait for fans of the Pistol Annies, but new music from the trio is definitely getting closer. In a recent interview, trio member Angaleena Presley said that the Annies have finished recording their third studio album.
In a press release on April 30, Kenny Chesney officially announced that fans could expect new music this summer! The country star plans to release his 17th studio album, Songs for the Saints, in July.
Fans have already heard “Get Along,” the project’s optimistic lead-off single, but Chesney suggests in a press release that much of the music on the new album will confront darker themes as well, with a deep exploration into “the places that save you.”
“So much has happened since I went off the road in 2016,” Chesney says. “And all of it, in one way or another, has ended up on this record. It’s special to me because of what it says — to me, and for me — about life, the world around us, how fragile it all can be and about somehow still finding the best parts of you, and moving towards them.”
The singer owned a home on the island of St. John, which Hurricane Irma left devastated in the late summer and early fall of 2017. Chesney’s experience with confronting and trying to recover from the wreckage plays into the new music, as the country singer co-wrote five of the album’s songs. Premiered exclusively last week on CMT, Aaron Watson fans can now check out the video for his current single ‘Run Wild Horses’ here, ahead of his forthcoming run of UK shows this September and a much-anticipated festival debut at The Long Road alongside Carrie Underwood, The Shires and more. The real life love story, featuring his wife of 15 years, Kimberly (@MrsAaronWatson) as she makes her music video debut, and directed by Benjamin Ranzinger, was filmed in the Watsons’ hometown of Buffalo Gap, Texas (population 468) at one of their favourite spots, the Perini Ranch and inspired by the song’s lyrics:
With around three weeks until Steve Earle rolls his tour bus into Belfast, we take a look at whats inspired him, where he has come from and take a look at his most recent work. If you ever had any doubt about where Steve Earle’s musical roots are planted, his new collection, So You Wannabe an Outlaw, makes it perfectly plain. “There’s nothing ‘retro’ about this record,” he states, “I’m just acknowledging where I’m coming from.” So You Wannabe an Outlaw is the first recording he has made in Austin, Texas. Earle has lived in New York City for the past decade but he acknowledges, “Look, I’m always gonna be a Texan, no matter what I do. And I’m always going to be somebody who learned their craft in Nashville. It’s who I am.”
Jonathan Jackson, who plays singer-songwriter Avery Barkley on CMT’s Nashville, has been part of the cast for the entirety of the show’s six-season run. As the final season comes to a close, he’s been looking back at the changes — both on- and off-screen — that have shaped the TV drama’s actors.
Equal parts genius and screwball, Roger Miller was one of the finest songwriters and most colorful characters to ever walk Nashville streets. (Or ride a motor scooter down them: In 1961, Miller, who reportedly had 30 unpaid parking tickets at the time, told The Tennessean that he purchased said scooter to “escape the meter maids.”)
Bigger by Sugarland is released today, and having spent the last week listening to an early preview release there is no denying that the re-teaming of Jennifer Nettles and Kristen Bush under the Sugarland banner has resulted in the creation of an album which only they could have made.
